Marnie specialises and is keen to promote hypnotherapy/self hypnosis within pregnancy and childbirth from her own personal experience and knowledge and with feed back from her clients.
Pregnancy and childbirth is happening all over the world all the time and most women do it more than once, women were designed to have babies. Unfortunately, through history and its tales, most women have an almost innate fear of childbirth, the images we are fed tend to all relate to pain. Unfortunately, these fears and anxieties can dominate the thoughts and feelings with regard to childbirth and interfere with the natural physical process. If these fears were eliminated women would be able to put all their energy into focussing on having calmer, relaxed births, natures natural pain killers would take over.
Medical intervention is, most definitely, sometimes needed and we are lucky to live in a society that can provide this, and should most definitely accept this when necessary. But for a woman to have control, free from unnecessary pain relief, to take part fully in the birth of her child is a truly satisfying and rewarding experience.
The first session of therapy will be used to gather information from the expectant parents (birth partner). To tailor the hypnosis to the characteristics of the parents, it is necessary to find out what their assumptions are about childbirth or their expectations if it is their first child. Individually they will be asked what their needs are before during and after delivery of their baby and how these will be met by each other, this is usually very enlightening as well as reassuring. The aim is to get clarification of what is expected from each partner and negotiate should a partner feel uncomfortable with certain requests. When discussed openly, wants and needs are comforting or no longer feel like rejection or abandonment. This is probably the biggest adventure of your life, why wouldn't you discuss and plan what to expect but often people don't which leads to misunderstandings.
The next stage is to discuss with both parents (birth partner) any knowledge or experience of Hypnotherapy hypnosis, who will experience hypnotherapy together. Much will have been learnt about each parent (birth partner) in the first session with regard to any fears or anxieties in relation to the pregnancy, labour and delivery. Reframing any negative thoughts or feelings with realistic positive thoughts will build their confidence and self belief that they have all the resources required to carry, labour and deliver their baby just as nature planned.
The number of sessions required will vary, but usually three to four sessions with booster sessions nearer the delivery date. It will be necessary to discuss with midwives, GPs should you wish to use hypnotherapy as an aid during your pregnancy as you discuss any other requirements you have within a birthing plan.
